About the job

Mercor is seeking a Software Engineer for their Automations team to build autonomous systems that manage Mercor's internal operations and will eventually scale to serve client companies. This role involves designing and shipping production agents that take real-world actions, such as scheduling interventions, executing playbooks, and managing talent pipelines. You will own systems end-to-end, from server design to evaluation frameworks, collaborating with operators and platform engineers to transform manual workflows into reliable, autonomous processes. The role requires a strong focus on correctness, rollback, observability, and trust in systems that handle sensitive data like payments, contracts, and livelihoods. This is a greenfield opportunity in agentic infrastructure with immediate real-world impact.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain MCP servers for agents to access Mercor's platform, manage actions, and trigger communications.
  • Design and implement evaluation frameworks to assess agent decision quality and drive improvements.
  • Develop action queues and playbook orchestration systems for multi-step agent workflows with conditional logic.
  • Instrument agent systems to capture outcomes, close feedback loops, and optimize evaluation metrics.
  • Collaborate with operators to identify automation opportunities and translate them into agent behaviors.
  • Debug and harden agent systems in production, ensuring reliability at scale.
  • Contribute to foundational patterns and infrastructure for company-wide use.

Requirements

  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals in Python or a similar modern language.
  • Experience building with LLM APIs, including tool use, structured outputs, and multi-step reasoning.
  • Comfort designing evaluation frameworks and analyzing agent failure modes.
  • Ability to ship code quickly and iterate on systems interacting with the real world.
  • Understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and production infrastructure.
  • Full-stack experience is a plus.

Benefits

  • Bi-annual performance bonus structure
  • Generous equity grant vested over 4 years
  • Up to $15k Relocation bonus
  • $10K housing bonus (if living within 0.5 miles of office)
  • $1.5K monthly stipend for meals
  • Free Equinox membership
  • $200 monthly laundry reimbursement
  • $200 monthly personal wellness reimbursement
  • Health, Dental, Vision insurance
