About the job

Mercor is seeking a Product Engineer for its Talent Experience team to build and scale the systems that evaluate the skills and expertise of top talent for the AI economy. This role involves significant ownership of backend-heavy, full-stack work, including designing evaluation pipelines, developing services for AI-assisted interviews and skill verification, and creating user-facing product surfaces. You will collaborate closely with product leads and other teams to translate AI research into production systems, leveraging modern AI coding tools to accelerate development and maintain high engineering standards. This is a high-leverage position where improvements directly impact Mercor's core operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and ship backend services and APIs for Mercor's assessment platform.
  • Own features end-to-end, from product discussions and technical design to implementation, testing, and release.
  • Build evaluation pipelines and data models integrating human judgment with AI scoring.
  • Contribute across the full stack, including candidate and expert-facing product surfaces.
  • Partner with Product, AI, and Data teams to implement assessment research.
  • Leverage modern AI coding tools to accelerate development.
  • Improve the performance, reliability, and observability of assessment infrastructure.
  • Solve customer problems and enhance candidate and expert experience.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems.
  • Strong backend fundamentals: API design, data modeling, distributed systems, and relational databases.
  • Comfortable working across the stack, including modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React/TypeScript).
  • Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features in production is a strong plus.
  • Comfortable using modern AI development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Excellent product intuition and enjoyment in building user-facing products.
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving environments with evolving priorities.
  • High ownership, curiosity, and a bias toward shipping.

Benefits

  • Bi-annual performance bonus structure
  • Generous equity grant vested over 4 years
  • Up to $15k Relocation bonus
  • $10K proximity bonus
  • $1.5K monthly stipend for meals
  • Free Equinox membership
  • $200 monthly laundry reimbursement
  • $200 monthly personal wellness reimbursement
  • Health, Dental, Vision insurance
