About the job
Mercor is seeking its first dedicated Procurement Operations hire to build and optimize the intake-to-PO infrastructure from the ground up. This high-impact, foundational role reports to the Head of Procurement and involves designing, implementing, and managing procurement processes. You will work at the intersection of Finance, Legal, Security, and Engineering, directly contributing to the company's growth by bringing order to ambiguity and scaling operations. If you are a builder who thrives on creating efficient systems and wants your work to directly influence company growth, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
- Design and launch the intake-to-procure lifecycle, including intake triage, approval matrices, vendor onboarding, PO creation, and fast-buy paths.
- Operate the procurement process day-to-day, identifying bottlenecks and resolving issues with minimal oversight.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI agents, automation, and modern tooling to replace manual work, and build, deploy, and iterate on these solutions.
- Verify AI output with rigor, anticipating failure modes and establishing standards for trustworthy AI work.
- Partner with Accounts Payable to ensure vendor master data quality and PO accuracy, and troubleshoot disputes.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert on procurement tools, policy, and compliance, providing guidance and creating training materials.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reports to track procurement performance and provide insights to leadership.
- Lead or support change management efforts related to new processes and tooling, and represent Procurement in cross-functional initiatives.
Requirements
- 4-8 years of experience in procurement operations, intake-to-PO processes, or a similar analytically rigorous operations role at a high-growth tech company.
- Direct experience building procurement processes from scratch, not just operating existing ones.
- Deep familiarity with procurement/P2P tooling (e.g., Ramp, Ironclad, Zip, or similar).
- Comfort building with and evaluating AI tools and agents, with a rigorous approach to verifying their output.
- Working knowledge of Accounts Payable and payment processes.
- Strong business judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and ability to make decisions without a pre-defined rulebook.
- A builder's mindset focused on designing scalable systems.
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills, able to explain policy and process clearly.
- Can-do attitude.
