Mercor is seeking its first Agentic Finance Engineer to join their team. This foundational role sits at the intersection of finance, data engineering, and applied AI, responsible for building and deploying the modern data and automation stack from the ground up. You will architect scalable financial data models, integrate AI agents into real workflows, and transform manual, spreadsheet-driven processes into reliable, production-grade systems.
The ideal candidate possesses deep finance domain knowledge, understanding core financial operations, and has the technical fluency to translate this into automated systems. You should be comfortable with both SQL and communicating with executive leadership, thriving in a zero-to-one building environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain a reliable financial data foundation using modern tools (dbt, FiveTran, Snowflake/BigQuery, Airflow) for revenue, AP/AR, procurement, close, strategic finance, and FP&A.
- Partner with the data infrastructure team to build Mercor's financial data model, defining canonical datasets, dimensional schemas, and transformation logic.
- Collaborate with Finance leads to translate business requirements into technical architecture.
- Build and maintain dashboards and self-serve reporting tools for real-time financial metric visibility.
- Own the Agentic Finance roadmap, prioritizing use cases and driving features from ideation to deployment.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities across Finance and corporate operations, eliminating manual work.
- Build intelligent automation via agents, AI-powered tools, and multi-step ETL jobs into live finance workflows using APIs.
- Develop internal tooling for Finance teams, including lightweight apps, workflow automations, and AI-assisted processes.
- Stay current with AI advancements in Finance and apply new capabilities to operational problems.
- Enforce data integrity standards and testing practices for financial data products.
- Ensure AI-assisted processes meet governance and controls standards with clear auditability.
- Champion a culture of data quality and documentation within the Finance team.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in finance operations, data engineering, analytics engineering, data science, or a related field, with a track record of shipping reliable systems in high-growth environments.
- Understanding of the data needs for accounting, finance operations, FP&A, strategic finance, and procurement.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Strong computer science fundamentals.
- A builder's instinct with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to both finance and engineering stakeholders.
- Experience navigating ambiguity in early-stage or rapidly scaling environments.
- Hands-on experience deploying AI agents or LLM-powered tools (bonus).
- Experience with financial data (bonus).
