Luma is seeking a Principal Product Manager to bridge the gap between their frontier research and product offerings, including Canvas, Agents, and the model platform. This role involves shaping research priorities based on customer needs and ensuring that shipped products leverage the latest research advancements. You will operate within the research process, interpreting research papers and evaluations, building prototypes, and identifying commercially viable research directions. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a research environment, can influence without authority, and possesses the technical depth to validate ideas independently.
Responsibilities
- Own the product strategy for translating frontier research into shippable features across Canvas, Agents, and the model platform.
- Collaborate with the research team to align priorities with real enterprise needs in marketing, advertising, and entertainment.
- Establish and manage feedback loops between research, product, go-to-market, and forward-deployed teams.
- Interpret evaluations and research findings to identify high-leverage capabilities and make strategic bets.
- Build prototypes to validate ideas before committing engineering resources.
- Translate model capabilities into customer solutions and manage the research-to-product handoff and quality.
- Define 'ready to ship' criteria and manage the process of turning research breakthroughs into products.
Requirements
- Principal or Staff-level PM experience bridging research and product at an AI lab or applied AI company.
- Comfort in a research environment, including reading and understanding evaluations and asking pertinent questions.
- Proven track record of shipping products that originated from research.
- Technical depth to build prototypes, work with models, write prompts, and test hypotheses.
- High agency and a general-manager mindset, balancing technical novelty with commercial impact.
- Ability to influence without authority.
