LangChain is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Enterprise Readiness team, specifically on the billing and monetization pod. This role will be instrumental in rebuilding and scaling the systems responsible for pricing and billing usage across all LangChain products. The goal is to transform the current billing pipeline into a flexible, self-serve platform that enables any team at LangChain to launch new pricing models rapidly, reducing the time from weeks to days. This is a high-impact, newly formed role where you will partner closely with product management and engineering teams to define the architecture for fast, flexible, and accurate pricing at scale, including complex usage-based and token-based models for AI products.
Responsibilities
- Rearchitect LangChain's billing pipeline into a self-serve platform, building primitives for other engineering teams to launch new pricing models without enterprise team review.
- Design and implement usage-based and token-based pricing infrastructure using Python/Go, including complex, configurable pricing logic.
- Build the underlying system for an internal agent and skills interface to allow teams to describe and launch pricing models quickly.
- Reduce code and complexity for shipping new pricing SKUs through better abstractions and shared components.
- Implement audit logging, usage tracking, and metering pipelines for billing accuracy, focusing on correctness with increasing pricing complexity.
- Integrate with billing and payment platforms (e.g., Metronome, Orb, Stripe) for metering and invoicing.
- Own billing reconciliation, deduplication, and edge cases like proration, disputes, and credits to ensure invoicing accuracy.
- Partner with billing PM and enterprise engineering to define and prioritize the pricing infrastructure roadmap.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented backend code.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Python or Go (both preferred).
- Hands-on experience building or scaling usage-based, subscription, or consumption billing infrastructure.
- Experience with metering, invoicing, or pricing-model logic, particularly enabling other teams to configure or launch pricing changes.
- Familiarity with Postgres, Redis, APIs, and modern distributed backend infrastructure.
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to thrive in fast-paced, unstructured startup environments.
- Experience with token-based or usage-based cost tracking, especially from LLM/API-first companies (nice to have).
