About the job

LearnVector, founded by Andrew Ng and backed by a $100 million investment from Coursera, is building a trustworthy AI guide for learning with the mission to accelerate human development. We are a small, fast-moving team working on-site in Mountain View, California. You will invent and prototype new AI-native teaching methods, leveraging agentic AI to create personalized learning experiences. Your role involves designing and implementing rigorous measurement frameworks to prove the effectiveness of these methods, ensuring learners retain knowledge and can apply it to real-world tasks. You will be the key voice in validating pedagogical choices through data and evidence, shaping product decisions at the highest level.

Responsibilities

  • Invent and prototype AI-native teaching methods, collaborating with engineers to integrate them into the product.
  • Design and implement the company's measurement backbone for tracking learning outcomes like skill gain, retention, and transfer.
  • Run studies with real learners, from pilots to longitudinal cohorts, to gather meaningful data on teaching effectiveness.
  • Develop trustworthy assessments, including performance tasks and rubrics, focusing on validity and reliability.
  • Establish the company-wide evidence bar for pedagogical choices, using literature and data to inform decisions.
  • Collaborate directly with the founding team on product development and strategic beliefs, ensuring evidence shapes decisions.

Requirements

  • Deep grounding in learning science, including experimental literature on skill acquisition, retention, and transfer.
  • Strong experimental design and statistical skills to conduct well-powered studies and distinguish signal from noise.
  • Research experience with human subjects in lab or field settings, with pragmatism to conduct studies in a fast-moving product environment.
  • Sufficient technical fluency to work directly with data (Python or R) and collaborate with engineers on instrumentation.
  • Excellent communication skills to make evidence legible and actionable for a non-specialist team.
