Vindexa is seeking its first engineering hire to build the technical foundation of an AI-powered compliance platform for the clean energy industry. This role involves making key architectural decisions, setting engineering standards, and owning the codebase to develop AI-powered workflows that automate Prevailing Wage and Apprenticeship (PWA) requirements under the Inflation Reduction Act. You will work closely with the CEO, operate with significant autonomy, and leverage AI coding tools as force multipliers. As the company scales, this position is expected to grow into a future engineering leadership role.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and ship full-stack features across the React/TypeScript frontend and Supabase/PostgreSQL backend.
- Write production-quality code at startup speed, utilizing AI coding tools to accelerate development.
- Make and defend architectural decisions regarding data modeling, API design, security, performance, and scalability.
- Maintain code quality, testing standards, and documentation.
- Design and implement AI agents and multi-step automation pipelines for document ingestion, payroll validation, issue detection, and remediation.
- Work with LLMs (Google Gemini, Claude) to build intelligent extraction, classification, and validation systems.
- Build robust, observable, production-grade AI workflows with error handling, retry logic, audit trails, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
- Stay current on AI engineering advancements and integrate appropriate tools.
- Establish scalable engineering patterns and practices.
- Ensure rigorous security for data handling (PII, SSNs, payroll data), authentication, authorization, and audit logging.
- Instrument the system for logging, monitoring, error tracking, and performance.
- Eventually recruit, mentor, and lead additional engineers.
Requirements
- Genuinely AI-native engineer experienced with AI tooling for development (e.g., Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code).
- Strong full-stack capability with React/TypeScript frontend, Node/TypeScript or equivalent backend, and SQL/relational data modeling experience.
- Experience building production AI agents and automation workflows.
- Demonstrated architectural judgment, understanding when to move fast and when to be deliberate.
- Security-minded approach to development.
- Independent operator capable of self-direction.
- Experience with Supabase, PostgreSQL, and serverless/edge function architectures (Deno is a plus).
- Proven history of shipping meaningful software at startup pace.
- Experience with document processing pipelines (parsing PDFs, Excel, Word; handling structured and unstructured data).
- Comfort working in new domains and learning compliance/regulatory logic.
- Excitement about the clean energy transition.
