Hugging Face is seeking a Senior Open-Source Python Engineer to join their Applications team. This role focuses on building and maintaining tooling that empowers developers to create machine learning applications using Hugging Face's platform primitives. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of libraries like Gradio, Trackio, and FastRTC, taking projects from early stages to widespread adoption. This is a dynamic role for someone comfortable with evolving challenges and passionate about making machine learning accessible to a broad audience.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain core features for ML developer tooling libraries.
- Architect complex Python projects and frameworks for the ML community.
- Grow early-stage libraries by defining APIs, creating documentation, and driving adoption.
- Work on real-time streaming and networking capabilities.
- Collaborate with open-source contributors and engage with the community.
- Integrate modern frontend technologies into Python-based web applications.
- Adapt to evolving engineering challenges and contribute to the direction of developer tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.
- 5+ years of professional Python development experience.
- Experience architecting complex Python projects or frameworks.
- Proven track record of taking early-stage libraries/products to broad adoption.
- Professional experience with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Professional experience with a modern frontend framework (e.g., React, Svelte).
- Experience core-contributing to or maintaining open-source software projects.
- Experience with real-time audio/video streaming or networking (WebRTC, WebSockets) is a plus.
- Contributions to libraries like pipecat, LiveKit, FastAPI, or Starlette are a plus.
