Hebbia is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join their team. In this hands-on role, you will be embedded with strategic customers, building the final layer of Hebbia's AI platform to suit their specific workflows, data, and domain. You will write production code, ship it, and own it, acting as the crucial link between the platform and customer environments. This position is ideal for engineers who want to combine deep technical work with direct customer impact, seeing their code create value quickly. You will collaborate closely with the core engineering team on code reviews, architecture, and deployment, as well as with account teams to prioritize your efforts. The role requires working in person at our offices in NYC and SF.
Responsibilities
- Embed with strategic accounts to understand their domain, data, and workflows.
- Build custom integrations, workflow automations, and domain-specific solutions on Hebbia's platform.
- Write production code that deploys through CI/CD pipelines and meets engineering standards.
- Own the technical relationship with the customer's team during engagements.
- Prototype, validate with customers, iterate, and ship solutions rapidly.
- Generalize reusable patterns from engagements into platform capabilities by collaborating with engineering and product teams.
- Participate in code reviews, on-call rotations, and architecture discussions.
- Build connectors to customer data sources and document management systems.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience at a venture-backed startup or top technology firm.
- Strong full-stack engineering skills, including APIs, data pipelines, frontend, and infrastructure.
- Comfort working with ambiguity and underspecified customer problems.
- High customer empathy and ability to translate user pain points into technical solutions.
- Ability to prototype, validate, and ship quickly.
- Strong communication skills, serving as the primary technical point of contact for customers.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
- Experience with modern backend technologies (Python, TypeScript, Go).
- Experience with data integrations, ETL pipelines, or enterprise data systems (S3, Snowflake, SharePoint) is a plus.
- Experience with LLMs, RAG systems, or applied AI is a plus but not required.
- Prior experience in finance, legal, or consulting domains is a plus.
- Experience in customer-facing engineering roles (solutions engineering, professional services, or similar) is a plus.
