Handshake is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer for its Agentic Infrastructure team. This role is crucial in shaping the foundation upon which engineering teams build, viewing infrastructure as a product itself. The engineer will be instrumental in designing, deploying, and evolving cloud infrastructure, collaborating with engineering, platform, and security teams to establish scalable patterns and make it easy for developers to implement best practices. This is a proactive role focused on architecting systems, creating playbooks, and driving towards a more intelligent, automated infrastructure future, rather than simply maintaining existing systems.
Responsibilities
- Architect and manage scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure across production and development environments.
- Define and enforce best practices for cloud deployments.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows.
- Own and evolve Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform, Crossplane, or similar tools.
- Drive platform improvements to reduce toil and increase developer velocity.
- Explore and implement AI-driven approaches for infrastructure automation, observability, and incident response.
- Partner with engineering teams to design cloud-native systems.
- Mentor engineers on cloud best practices and patterns.
Requirements
- Deep hands-on experience with GCP (strongly preferred), AWS, or Azure, including running production workloads at scale.
- Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform or experience with Crossplane or similar policy-driven IaC.
- Fluency with modern CI/CD tooling (e.g., Buildkite, GitHub Actions) and a strong GitOps mindset (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux).
- Experience designing container-based and Kubernetes-native architectures.
- Genuine curiosity about applying AI and automation to infrastructure problems.
- Strong communication skills.
- Collaborative spirit with a bias toward documentation, standards, and shared ownership.
