About the job

Glean is seeking Backend/Infrastructure engineers to develop a platform that ensures enterprise agents are safe, discoverable, reliable, and governable at scale. This role involves working on agent publishing, sharing, moderation, policy enforcement, permissions, versioning, observability, and spend management. It's a distributed-systems and security-sensitive challenge that spans platform infrastructure, product systems, and enterprise administration. You will be responsible for taking ownership of problems from their initial definition and architecture through to production launch and ongoing operation, transforming ambiguous requirements into robust platform primitives.

Responsibilities

  • Own impactful systems from design through reliable production operation.
  • Write clear design documents and make sound tradeoffs across security, reliability, performance, user experience, and cost.
  • Build well-tested backend services and platform components with strong correctness and operational guarantees.
  • Solve distributed-systems problems involving consistency, idempotency, retries, ordering, migrations, and safe rollout.
  • Partner with Product, Security, Infrastructure, and customer-facing teams to turn enterprise needs into scalable capabilities.
  • Ensure governance decisions are auditable, tracking changes, applied policies, access decisions, and run outcomes.
  • Improve monitoring, alerting, debugging, incident response, and operational maturity.
  • Mentor engineers and help shape the roadmap around high-leverage platform problems.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in computer science, or related degree.
  • 6+ years building production backend, infrastructure, or cloud-native systems.
  • Strong coding skills in Go, Python, Java, C++, or a similar language.
  • Experience with distributed systems, APIs, storage, asynchronous workflows, or control planes.
  • Strong understanding of identity, authorization, tenancy, policy enforcement, auditability, and sensitive data access.
  • Ability to reason about failure modes, system boundaries, invariants, and operational tradeoffs.
  • Customer-focused, proactive, and comfortable owning ambiguous problems and production issues.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure is a plus.
  • Experience with AI agents, workflow systems, developer platforms, or enterprise administration is a plus.

Benefits

  • Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for variable compensation, equity, and benefits.
