About the job
Scale is seeking a Forward Deployed Product Manager (FDPM) to drive the success of enterprise AI deployments. This role is embedded with customers, focusing on achieving real production outcomes and translating operational realities into actionable product insights. Unlike a traditional roadmap PM or solutions engineer, the FDPM owns product outcomes within a portfolio of enterprise accounts, building trust with senior stakeholders, guiding deployments to production, and identifying product versus execution bottlenecks. The ideal candidate can differentiate between stated customer needs, underlying problems, and optimal platform solutions, having previously shipped products into large organizations.
Responsibilities
- Own product outcomes for high-impact enterprise accounts, ensuring product delivery and customer value.
- Build trusted advisory relationships with VP/C-level buyers and senior technical leads, serving as the primary escalation point.
- Drive deployments from contract signing to production, understanding and achieving 'production-ready' standards.
- Translate customer workflows, friction points, and priorities into high-signal product input for core platform teams, articulating tradeoffs.
- Differentiate between product constraints and execution/integration/change management blockers, driving resolution through appropriate channels.
- Partner closely with Field Deployment Engineers (FDEs) to ensure coordinated account management.
- Identify and develop expansion opportunities based on demonstrated customer value.
- Represent customer realities to platform and leadership teams to influence decision-making.
Requirements
- 6+ years in product management, technical program management, or a customer-facing product ownership role.
- Demonstrated record of shipping products or platform capabilities into large organizations, not just pilots or proofs-of-concept.
- Proven ability to drive AI/ML or complex software products from contract to production at scale, managing integration, security, and change management.
- Strong product judgment in the field, translating customer reality into product direction and credibly saying 'no' when necessary.
- Ability to build and maintain trust with demanding senior stakeholders over multi-quarter engagements.
- Skill in bridging the gap between customer engineering teams and platform engineers with interpretation, not just message relaying.
- Comfort operating in ambiguous environments, creating structure, and making decisions with incomplete information.
- Clear, precise communication adaptable to various audiences (executives, engineers, PMs).
- Extreme ownership and follow-through, driving outcomes across teams without formal authority.
- Strong judgment under pressure, making quick, sound decisions with incomplete information.
- Technical fluency to comprehend architectural tradeoffs and how systems function in production.
