About the job

Fireworks is seeking a product-minded engineer to join their team and own the surfaces that make their AI platform, Nexus, a reality. Nexus is a drop-in platform designed to help engineering organizations reduce AI spend by routing workloads to high-performing open models. This role involves owning features end-to-end, from understanding problems and designing solutions to shipping and observing developer usage. You will be responsible for the intelligent router, cost-observability and enterprise-control layers, integrations, and core platform components like inference APIs and fine-tuning workflows. This is a high-autonomy individual contributor role on a small team, offering significant leverage and direct impact on a product that ships to production at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own product features end-to-end across Nexus and the broader Fireworks platform, including the intelligent router, FireConnect integrations, cost observability, enterprise controls, developer console, API surfaces, model playground, fine-tuning workflows, and billing.
  • Build the routing and migration layer that scores request difficulty in real-time and directs work to appropriate models for cost reduction.
  • Extend FireConnect and compatible APIs to enable frictionless adoption of Nexus into existing tools.
  • Improve caching and infrastructure paths for material cost savings.
  • Work across the full stack (frontend, backend services, APIs, data layers) to ship production-quality product surfaces for technical users.
  • Build for evolving products, including new models, serving paths, consumption models, enterprise controls, and multi-agent tooling.
  • Partner with Infrastructure, Applied Research, Growth, Data, and Design teams.
  • Instrument all built components and use data to identify and remove friction.

Requirements

  • 3+ years as a software engineer with experience building and shipping user-facing products.
  • Strong full-stack skills across frontend (React/TypeScript), backend (Python, Go, or similar), APIs, and databases.
  • Track record of shipping developer-facing products (APIs, dashboards, consoles, CLIs, developer tools).
  • Genuine end-to-end ownership, comfortable scoping ambiguous problems and deploying fixes.
  • Strong product instincts, optimizing for developer experience.
  • Ability to operate at high velocity with extreme ownership, shipping fast and making pragmatic trade-offs.
  • Experience building products on top of complex infrastructure, inference platforms, cloud services, data platforms, or ML tooling (preferred).
  • Experience building for deeply technical users, where the product surface is an API as much as a UI (preferred).
  • Comfort in a fast-moving, founder-led environment where the product changes frequently (preferred).
  • Daily use of AI tools and intuition for a great AI developer experience (preferred).

Benefits

  • Solve Hard Problems: Tackle challenges at the forefront of AI infrastructure.
  • Build What’s Next: Work with bleeding-edge technology impacting AI globally.
  • Ownership & Impact: Join a fast-growing team where your work directly shapes the future of AI.
  • Learn from the Best: Collaborate with world-class engineers and AI researchers.
