About the job
Etched is building hardware for frontier intelligence, focusing on inference. We co-design chips, racks, software, and manufacturing to deliver best-in-class throughput and latency. Backed by significant investment and staffed by leading engineers, Etched is redefining the infrastructure layer for the fastest-growing industry. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining kernel-mode drivers to ensure high reliability, informative debugging, and optimal performance for demanding AI workloads, with a focus on minimizing latency and maximizing throughput. You will collaborate closely with hardware engineers throughout the ASIC design process and implement driver support for device virtualization technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain kernel-mode drivers for high reliability and performance.
- Analyze and optimize driver performance for AI workloads, focusing on latency and throughput.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers on ASIC design.
- Implement driver support for device virtualization (SR-IOV, VFIO, para-virtualization).
- Implement efficient memory management strategies (kernel mapping, page tables, NUMA, IOMMU).
- Build kernel drivers for security across host processes, memory spaces, and device attestation.
- Diagnose and resolve complex driver issues using kernel debugging tools (ftrace, dmesg).
- Design and implement synchronization mechanisms for concurrent access to accelerators.
- Develop and execute test plans for driver functionality, stability, and performance.
- Collaborate with software and hardware teams on system-level issues.
Requirements
- Proficiency in C/C++.
- Strong understanding of kernel-mode driver development and debugging.
- Deep understanding of operating system internals (Linux preferred).
- Experience with hardware/software interfacing and device drivers.
- Experience with memory management and synchronization in kernel environments.
- Strong understanding of PCIe and other hardware interfaces.
- Experience with device virtualization technologies (SR-IOV, VFIO).
- Strong understanding of kernel memory mapping, page table configuration, and IOMMU.
- Familiarity with hardware-software co-design principles.
- Proven ability to analyze complex technical problems and provide effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Experience with debugging tools (e.g., gdb, kgdb).
Benefits
