Egen is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to set the technical direction for complex Generative AI projects and be hands-on in building them. This role treats AI as a software engineering discipline, focusing on architecting robust production systems and elevating the skills of surrounding engineers. You will tackle challenging problems involving agentic platforms at scale, foundation model work, and AI in regulated environments, taking systems from ambiguous business problems to scalable production services that address real-world constraints like latency, reliability, cost, and governance. You will also serve as the technical lead in client engagements, partnering with leadership to translate business strategy into AI architecture, shape solutions during pre-sales, and build trust.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and own end-to-end architecture for complex GenAI and agentic systems.
- Establish standards for evaluation, observability, and responsible AI.
- Build and fine-tune foundation models, develop novel agentic workflows, and implement advanced RAG and semantic search.
- Engineer systems for production, considering latency, reliability, cost, and scale from inception.
- Apply MLOps discipline for efficient serving, monitoring, and continuous improvement of AI systems.
- Architect and operate agentic workflows for reliable, complex reasoning at scale.
- Advise clients, understand strategy, propose AI approaches, and shape solutions in pre-sales.
- Elevate other engineers through architecture reviews, mentorship, and setting high standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years in software/AI/ML engineering with a track record of delivering AI systems to production at scale.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in owning architecture and setting direction across engagements or teams.
- Proven track record of deploying GenAI and/or agentic products to production.
- Experience with classic machine learning (neural nets, training, tuning) strongly preferred.
- Strong data engineering and SQL knowledge.
- Senior client-facing experience, translating technical complexity into business value for executives.
