Distyl AI is seeking creative researchers to push the envelope of AI utilization in enterprise. This role focuses on identifying entirely new classes of AI systems by exploring a wide range of architectures, modalities, and compositions to uncover how AI can most effectively reshape work. The ideal candidate will have a strong research track record, operate in an AI-native way, and be driven to redefine how software is used, rather than just optimize existing processes. You will draw connections across disparate domains, experiment with unconventional problem definitions, and develop prototypes that reveal new categories of human-AI collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Identify new classes of AI systems by exploring architectures, modalities, and compositions.
- Connect disparate domains to uncover new system archetypes.
- Experiment with unconventional problem definitions.
- Develop prototypes demonstrating new categories of human-AI collaboration.
Requirements
- Experience building a wide breadth of systems across various paradigms (e.g., retrieval pipelines, reasoning agents, evaluation harnesses, multimodal integrations, workflow graph systems).
- Experience building intelligent systems using models rather than solely training or fine-tuning them.
- Expertise in compound AI systems, agentic collaboration, and associated techniques (e.g., ensembling, ReAct, graph-of-thoughts).
- Proven track record of research results (publications, public work, etc.).
- Daily use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Cursor, Perplexity) to accelerate workflow.
- Strong programming and data analysis skills to build prototypes and conduct experiments.
- Bias towards demonstrating capabilities through prototypes and results.
