About the job
Anthropic is seeking a senior Design Engineer to join their Brand Web team. This role sits at the intersection of design and engineering, focusing on shaping the development of Anthropic's web properties, including significant portions of anthropic.com and claude.com. You will be responsible for interactive marketing pages, data visualization systems, and internal tooling for content operations. The position involves working collaboratively with designers, engineers, and brand/content teams, setting technical direction, and partnering with platform and product engineering on underlying infrastructure. Rapid prototyping and moving from concept to production with speed and craft are key aspects of this role.
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and implementation of key sections of claude.com and anthropic.com, including design system code, page templates, interactive experiences, and data visualization systems, setting technical direction.
- Lead major web initiatives end-to-end, including migrations, redesigns, and new product surfaces, covering scoping, architecture, partner coordination, and shipping.
- Define and evolve the headless CMS architecture, including content modeling, structured data workflows, editorial governance, and systems for non-engineers.
- Build creative tooling and internal systems to enhance team efficiency, such as Claude-powered design system tools, page generators, and content workflows.
- Partner with Web Platforms, Security, and Growth Product Engineering on cross-team surfaces like deployments, performance, technical SEO, experimentation, and incident response.
- Make and document architecture and technical standards decisions, including framework choices, performance budgets, accessibility, code quality, and frontend infrastructure.
- Build and evolve localization infrastructure for international presence, including content modeling, vendor integration, and patterns for performant localized pages.
- Mentor mid-level engineers and contribute to hiring, acting as a technical leader for the growing team.
Requirements
- Deep experience building and shipping production web properties at scale, with ownership of architecture decisions and their production consequences.
- Expertise in modern frontend frameworks (Next.js / React) and understanding of their appropriate application and structuring for long-lived sites.
- Experience leading work on headless CMS platforms, including shaping content models, publishing experiences, and operational governance.
- Proven ability to build internal tools and creative tooling that gain team adoption.
- Ability to operate as a peer to platform, security, and product engineering teams, partnering effectively on shared infrastructure while maintaining design and craft sensibility.
- Proficiency in moving between hands-on building, technical direction-setting, and explaining tradeoffs to non-technical partners.
- Strong focus on design and craft, evident in work related to typography, motion, and interaction.
- Experience shipping localized web properties at production scale, including hands-on work with content modeling, tooling, and workflow decisions for sustainable localization.
