Databricks is seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Customer Engagement and Docs platform team, focusing on enhancing customer support through AI and Large Language Models (LLMs). This role operates at the intersection of Product development and Machine Learning, aiming to help customers resolve issues faster by providing precise solutions or facilitating seamless escalations. You will gain a deep understanding of user behavior, identify problem drivers, and leverage ML and LLMs to analyze complex technical use cases within an enterprise environment, ultimately guiding them towards resolution.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of systems for evaluation, answer retrieval, and quality improvement for customer assistance.
- Make architectural decisions to ensure the performance, reliability, and accuracy of knowledge systems.
- Promote engineering excellence through best practices like design reviews, code quality, testing, and performance optimization.
- Deliver high-quality, production-ready code and services end-to-end, including performance tuning, resiliency improvements, and debugging.
- Contribute to long-term technical planning and support strategic initiatives within the Assistant and Support organizations.
Requirements
- 6+ years of industry experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in machine learning and software engineering with a strong product-oriented approach.
- Ability to define and structure solutions in ambiguous problem domains.
- Capacity to mentor junior engineers and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Proven track record of driving high-impact, technically complex initiatives that delivered clear customer or business value.
- Prior experience with retrieval systems and search technologies is a plus.
