Anthropic is seeking a Data Scientist to optimize compute allocation, a critical decision for the company. This role addresses two key problems: matching volatile demand to finite chip capacity and understanding the causal impact of various levers on user outcomes. You will build analytical frameworks, metrics, and causal inference models to inform these decisions, translating insights into operational changes. This position is ideal for someone who excels at resource allocation, systems thinking, and driving tangible results in production environments, working closely with infrastructure engineers and presenting findings to senior leadership.
Responsibilities
- Build and run testing frameworks to quantify how different inputs affect compute allocation outcomes.
- Connect compute allocation decisions to downstream user outcomes such as retention, lifetime value, and revenue.
- Partner with infrastructure engineers, product, and research teams to instrument systems, measure key metrics, and implement operational changes.
- Develop metric hierarchies, dashboards, and reporting to foster shared understanding of supply decisions across the company.
- Contribute analyses and recommendations to executive forums and co-author the supply narrative for senior leadership.
Requirements
- Strong technical background in data science, analytics, or operations research as an individual contributor.
- Demonstrated ability to reason about resource allocation and trade-offs under constraints.
- Working fluency with causal inference, including identifying effects and choosing appropriate designs.
- Deep proficiency in Python, SQL, and data visualization tools.
- Proven track record of owning analyses end-to-end and communicating results clearly to leadership.
- Direct experience collaborating with engineering teams on production systems.
