About the job

d-Matrix is at the forefront of software and hardware innovation, aiming to unleash the potential of generative AI. We foster a culture of respect, collaboration, humility, and direct communication, valuing diverse perspectives to create better solutions. We are seeking passionate individuals driven by execution to join us in shaping the future of AI.

As a Staff-level individual contributor on the Software Infrastructure team, you will drive the automation for our CI/CD and release pipeline. This involves diagnosing and fixing pipeline failures, such as identifying real regressions, flaky hardware, or infrastructure issues, and pinpointing the exact merge that caused overnight test failures. You will blend AI techniques with traditional software automation to build highly reliable systems and architect compute and storage solutions across cloud and on-prem environments. Your role will involve partnering with various teams to develop and spread best practices, reducing developer toil and accelerating development velocity.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build automation to diagnose and resolve CI/CD pipeline failures, classifying regressions, flaky hardware, and infrastructure issues.
  • Develop automated methods to identify which code merges cause failures in long-running test suites.
  • Evaluate and integrate AI techniques with deterministic automation to enhance system reliability.
  • Architect scalable compute and storage solutions for build and test workloads across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Own release engineering practices, including versioning schemes, independent component release trains, and compatibility matrices.
  • Reduce developer toil and improve time-to-signal across the product, development, test, and release pipeline.
  • Partner with development groups and Quality Engineering to drive adoption of new tooling and best practices.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of building automation that measurably reduced toil or time-to-signal in a CI, release, or dev-tooling context.
  • Release engineering experience, including versioning schemes, independent component release trains, and compatibility matrices.
  • Architectural judgment on trade-offs, such as AI versus deterministic software, and compute availability versus data locality.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience building production-grade automation.
  • Track record of driving adoption of new tooling and best practices across teams.
  • Experience with GitLab CI and merge-train workflows at scale (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience building LLM-based agents or tools for developer workflows (preferred).
  • Experience with semantic versioning or independently versioned multi-component release systems (preferred).
  • Experience as a user of CI/CD systems, understanding the developer-customer perspective (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with containerized workloads, VMs, and Kubernetes (preferred).
  • Experience with observability of distributed systems, including metrics, logging, reporting, and alerting (preferred).
  • Systems administration skills for investigating host-level issues (preferred).
