About the job

We are seeking Field Engineers to collaborate with prospective and strategic customers in the Public Sector. In this role, you will be the technical representative for Cursor, assisting federal civilian and defense agencies in modernizing their software development processes. Your responsibilities will include helping developers, engineering leaders, and program teams evaluate Cursor, conducting proofs of concept, and demonstrating the value of agentic coding in their specific workflows. You will work closely with Sales, Product, and Engineering teams, acting as a technical advisor to various stakeholders, including engineering leaders, architects, developers, security personnel, procurement, and program leads. This customer-facing position requires strong technical expertise, commercial acumen, and effective communication to drive adoption and shape product development.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Account Executives to manage technical discovery, demonstrations, proofs of concept, and technical validation for new deals and expansions.
  • Establish trusted relationships with engineering, security, product, and IT stakeholders.
  • Engage deeply within mission-critical and high-security environments, focusing on developer workflows, AI tooling, and complex or constrained setups.
  • Assist customers in connecting Cursor to tangible outcomes such as improved developer productivity, secure software delivery, and enhanced mission velocity.
  • Deliver technical presentations, whiteboarding sessions, and workshops to both technical and executive audiences.
  • Serve as the customer's internal technical advocate to the Product and Engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with post-sales teams for seamless handoffs and successful customer onboarding.

Requirements

  • Possess strong communication skills and executive presence, comfortable working with engineers and presenting to CTOs, CISOs, and program leaders.
  • Understand the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and be able to articulate the connection between technical details and mission/operational impact.
  • Demonstrate hands-on technical fluency in workflows, AI tooling, and complex/constrained environments (not necessarily full-time engineering).
  • Exhibit strategic instincts for deal partnership, capable of co-owning with AEs and navigating complex stakeholder landscapes.
  • Have prior experience in Field Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Pre-Sales, or Consulting, preferably within federal, defense, or highly regulated technology sectors.
  • Be enthusiastic about the Public Sector and capable of quickly learning agency buying processes, security expectations, and partner ecosystems.
  • Hold or be able to obtain a federal security clearance; an active clearance is advantageous.
