About the job
Our mission is to automate coding by building the best tool for professional programmers through inventive research, design, and engineering. We are a small, talent-dense organization that values truth-seeking, passion, and creativity. We encourage spirited debate, bold ideas, and shipping code.
We are seeking Field Engineers to collaborate with prospective and strategic enterprise customers in the Life Sciences sector. In this role, you will be the technical representative for Cursor, assisting programmers, researchers, scientists, and commercial teams in evaluating our platform, conducting proofs of concept, and demonstrating the value of agentic coding in their specific workflows. You will work closely with Sales, Product, and Engineering as a deal partner, not just a demo resource, scoping solutions, showcasing capabilities, and serving as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders in Life Sciences, including engineering leaders, architects, developers, and teams in scientific computing, R&D, and commercial IT. This is a highly customer-facing position where deep technical expertise, commercial acumen, and clear communication are essential for driving adoption and influencing product development.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Account Executives to manage technical discovery, demonstrations, proofs of concept, and expansion through technical validation.
- Cultivate trusted relationships with engineering, scientific computing, R&D, and commercial IT teams.
- Engage deeply in research-intensive and regulated environments, understanding developer workflows, AI tooling, and complex system setups.
- Assist customers in connecting Cursor to tangible outcomes, such as accelerating R&D cycles and shortening the time from lab to market.
- Deliver technical presentations, whiteboard sessions, and workshops for both scientific and commercial audiences.
- Serve as the customer's internal technical advocate to Product and Engineering teams.
- Collaborate with post-sales teams for seamless handoffs and successful onboarding.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Cursor and the competitive landscape to effectively engage in technical discussions.
Requirements
- Possess strong communication skills and executive presence, comfortable coding with developers and presenting to CTOs and scientific leaders.
- Understand the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and articulate the connection between technical details and business/scientific impact.
- Demonstrate hands-on technical fluency (not necessarily full-time engineering experience) in workflows, AI tooling, and complex environments.
- Exhibit deal-partner instincts, co-owning initiatives with Account Executives and navigating complex stakeholder maps.
- Be customer-obsessed and adept at translating technical details into organizational value.
- Have prior experience in Field Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Pre-Sales, or Consulting.
- Express enthusiasm for the Life Sciences industry and a readiness to quickly learn about regulated and research-heavy organizations.
- Be motivated by empowering individuals with AI to accelerate benefits for humanity.
