About the job
Crusoe is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for their Developer Experience (DevX) team. This high-impact role is responsible for critical developer tools and infrastructure used across all of Crusoe's engineering efforts, aiming to accelerate development while maintaining high quality. The engineer will empower every Crusoe engineer to deliver positive change to customers quickly, safely, and efficiently. This position involves working through ambiguity to justify investments that improve developer experience across the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including local development, build optimization, code review/CI experience, and AI tools. The role is crucial in shaping technical direction, communicating strategic vision, and fostering a company-wide culture of engineering excellence, ultimately eliminating friction between engineers and their 'flow state'.
Responsibilities
- Build paved paths that engineers love to use, ensuring they are fast and reliable.
- Identify and automate away friction and repetitive tasks that slow down the development process.
- Develop libraries, tools, and pre-production environments for vetting service APIs and microservice interactions.
- Unify internal tooling and vendor services to automate workflows, build operational efficiency, and optimize security.
- Innovate across the entire development lifecycle, including source code management, build systems, code review, CI/CD, platform runtimes, and telemetry.
- Lead efforts to establish a culture of continuous quality delivery that scales with engineering growth.
- Build efficient systems and processes that multiply the impact of every engineer.
Requirements
- Previous experience leading the development of developer tools and/or infrastructure for engineering teams.
- Expert ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and understand how infrastructure decisions impact developer productivity.
- Fluent knowledge of industry-standard AI tooling, build tooling, containerization, and open-source development frameworks.
- Demonstrated passion for building empathetic developer and operator workflows.
- Professional experience managing or developing within Kubernetes clusters and deep understanding of container orchestration.
- Proven experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Release Engineering, or a similar productivity-focused discipline.
- Deep understanding of automated testing infrastructure and CI/CD integration.
- Expertise in modern programming languages, specifically Go.
- Advanced proficiency in Git-based workflows (GitLab/GitHub).
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related analytical field, or equivalent professional experience.

- Paid time off & paid holidays
