About the job
CrewAI is seeking a core maintainer for its leading open-source framework, which is the standard for production-grade agentic automation. This role involves building and maintaining the Crews and Flows APIs that hundreds of thousands of developers rely on. You will be engineering in public, with your design decisions, code reviews, and API choices visible to a large community. The position requires balancing development velocity with the long-term stewardship of a widely adopted open-source project, prioritizing developer experience as a core product tenet.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain core framework capabilities including agent orchestration, agent harness, Flows, task execution, tools, memory, MCP, A2A, and public APIs.
- Own the contributor experience by triaging and reviewing community PRs and issues, mentoring contributors, and maintaining quality standards.
- Make and document API and developer experience decisions, considering backward compatibility and migration paths.
- Uphold engineering quality through clean, well-tested Python code, strong typing, and ensuring green CI.
- Write and improve documentation, examples, and guides for developers.
- Partner with runtime and platform engineers to ensure coherence between the OSS and enterprise versions and manage versioning.
- Engage directly with the community through GitHub Discussions, forums, Discord, and other channels to gather feedback and inform the roadmap.
Requirements
- 7+ years of Python engineering experience, with a proven track record of shipping and maintaining library or framework code.
- Demonstrated care for API design and developer experience, with the ability to articulate design principles.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects, including reviewing external PRs, managing issues, and public communication.
- Familiarity with the modern Python toolchain (uv, pytest, type hints, pre-commit).
- Working knowledge of LLMs and agent concepts, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
- Comfort with the pace, ambiguity, and public feedback of an early-stage, high-growth environment.
