Anthropic is seeking a Commercial Counsel, GTM to join their legal team and play a key role in bringing cutting-edge AI technology to users, researchers, and enterprises globally. This position involves close collaboration with experienced colleagues, focusing on supporting Go-to-Market teams, managing enterprise agreements, and handling customer negotiations. The role also offers exposure to commercial work such as research collaborations, product partnerships, and procurement, as well as opportunities to engage with AI safety and research agreements, including threat-sharing frameworks and responsible AI development standards. This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated attorney to deepen their expertise in commercial transactions while contributing to responsible AI development.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, primarily GTM/Sales transactions and enterprise customer contracts.
- Partner with Sales and Go-to-Market teams to support deal velocity and provide practical legal guidance.
- Assist in building and maintaining commercial legal infrastructure, including contract templates, playbooks, and process improvements.
- Collaborate with Policy, Safeguards, and Research teams on novel AI governance initiatives.
- Identify and escalate legal risks while supporting business momentum.
- Stay updated on legal developments impacting AI technologies.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of legal experience, with exposure to commercial contracts, SaaS agreements, or technology transactions.
- Clear communication skills and ability to translate legal concepts for non-lawyer audiences.
- Collaborative approach and low-ego attitude when working with colleagues and external partners.
- Curiosity about AI technology, AI Policy, and a commitment to responsible AI development.
- Experience managing multi-stakeholder agreements involving technical and policy considerations.
- Comfort working in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities.
- A proactive, "doer" attitude with a willingness to assist where needed.

- Annual compensation range: $265,000 - $320,000 USD (OTE for sales roles includes commissions/bonuses).
