Cohere is a leading enterprise AI company building cutting-edge foundation AI models and end-to-end products. The North Tools & Retrieval team is responsible for how users bring their data into the platform and put it to work. This includes owning systems for uploading, organizing, and sharing files and knowledge bases, the framework for extending agents with skills and third-party integrations, and the data-sync pipeline connecting enterprise data sources to North's agents. We are seeking a senior generalist who can operate across both backend and frontend development to own features end-to-end, from API design and database schema to the user-facing frontend.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, ship, and maintain features across the full stack for file upload and management, shared knowledge bases, agent extensibility framework, and data synchronization pipelines.
- Own features end-to-end, including technical design, implementation, testing, launch, and iteration.
- Write and ship minimal code for low-resource environments with stringent deployment mechanisms, prioritizing security and privacy.
- Collaborate with Product, UX, and the modeling team to validate requirements and prototype quickly.
- Improve engineering practices through patterns, testing discipline, code review, and mentoring.
- Actively use AI in work while ensuring quality and reliability of shipped features.
Requirements
- Shipped significant full-stack code (Python and React) in production.
- Excel in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities.
- Strong coding abilities and comfort working across the full stack.
- Experience building and deploying performant client-side or server-side RAG/agentic applications to millions of users.
- Product-oriented thinking, focusing on 'should we build this?' before 'how to build this?'.
- Strong opinions on user experience and willingness to challenge designs/specs.
- Experience owning features end-to-end, from problem understanding to measuring impact.
