Cohere Labs is seeking Research Engineers to join their dedicated research arm, focused on pushing machine learning forward through open, collaborative research and hands-on experimentation. This is a highly practical role where you will work closely with scientists and engineers to implement new methods, run large-scale experiments, and help shape the infrastructure supporting our research programs. You will be responsible for building experiments, debugging models, scaling training pipelines, and turning research ideas into working systems. We value curiosity, strong fundamentals, and a willingness to learn quickly in a fast-moving research environment, with a focus on practical impact.
Responsibilities
- Implement new machine learning methods.
- Run large-scale experiments and ablations.
- Debug models and analyze results.
- Scale training pipelines.
- Translate research ideas into practical, working systems.
- Collaborate closely with scientists and other engineers.
- Contribute to shaping research infrastructure.
Requirements
- Strong engineering background in machine learning, NLP, or related areas (Master's degree, industry experience, or equivalent).
- Proficiency in writing clean, reliable code and building reusable systems.
- Comfort with experimentation, running ablations, analyzing results, and iterating quickly.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks and model optimization techniques (e.g., PyTorch, distributed training, RLHF, finetuning, evaluation frameworks).
- Ability to collaborate closely with researchers and translate ideas into practical implementations.
- Excitement to grow research instincts while maintaining engineering excellence.
