Cohere is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on building full-stack applications for critical enterprise sectors, starting with pharmaceuticals and expanding to finance and healthcare. This role involves owning the application and user-experience layer, collaborating with product managers, designers, and ML engineers to deliver AI-first products. The ideal candidate will have experience building AI-first products integrated with agentic systems, ensuring secure, reliable, observable, safe, and auditable applications in high-stakes environments. The position requires strong leadership, technical decision-making, and a commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage backend and frontend engineers, fostering collaboration and ensuring predictable delivery.
- Serve as the primary interface between Product and Engineering teams.
- Translate product requirements into a technical roadmap and manage it end-to-end.
- Design, build, ship, and maintain scalable features for Cohere verticals.
- Apply technical expertise to make practical decisions balancing velocity, depth, and quality.
- Contribute across the full stack to develop new features, fix bugs, and optimize performance.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
Requirements
- Experience working with non-technical product managers.
- Proven experience managing engineering teams, including conflict resolution and delivering high-quality software.
- Experience building, shipping, and maintaining production-ready applications, including AI-first applications.
- Strong coding skills and comfort working across the full stack.
- Experience deploying cloud-based and on-prem applications.
- High agency and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
