About the job

Cohere is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to focus on building and enhancing AI-powered product experiences within their North platform. This role is crucial for making AI agents and automations genuinely useful and reliable in enterprise workflows. You will collaborate with product, design, and modeling teams to transform model capabilities into user-facing systems like agent builders, evaluation frameworks, and new interfaces for human-AI collaboration. The work involves shipping new product features, improving evaluation and feedback loops, and optimizing AI reliability through product design, prompting, and context management. You will also translate production failures and user feedback into actionable improvements for product behavior and model development.

Responsibilities

  • Build AI-powered product experiences for users to create, configure, evaluate, and improve workflows.
  • Design and ship new interfaces for interacting with models, including workflow builders and proactive assistants.
  • Develop evaluation, observability, and feedback systems to measure AI experience success in enterprise workflows.
  • Improve AI reliability via product design, prompting, context construction, tool use, and feedback loops.
  • Translate production failures, user feedback, and task data into better product behavior and regression tests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and ship measurable improvements for specific workflows.
  • Determine when workflows require product experience enhancements, better model interfaces, stronger evaluations, or deeper modeling investment.

Requirements

  • Shipped LLM-powered, agent-powered, or AI-assisted product experiences into production and improved them based on feedback.
  • Strong software engineering skills across backend systems, user-facing product, data, evals, and model behavior.
  • Focus on user outcomes and system behavior, not just model metrics.
  • Strong product taste and understanding of how interface, workflow, and model interact.
  • Enjoy debugging real-world failures and implementing durable improvements.
  • Ability to own ambiguous problems end-to-end and work across system boundaries.

Benefits

  • Weekly lunch stipend of $75/£75 or equivalent.
  • Full health and dental benefits, including a mental health budget.
  • RRSP matching, 401K, Pension Scheme.
  • 100% Parental Leave top-up for up to 6 months.
  • Annual enrichment benefits (arts & culture, fitness/wellness, quality time, workspace improvement).
  • Education & learning stipend for conferences, courses, and coaching.
  • 6 weeks of paid vacation (30 working days).
  • Budget for traveling to other offices if remote.
  • Annual company offsite.
  • Co-working benefit for those not near an office.
  • $500 home office stipend.
