Cognition is an applied AI lab building end-to-end software agents, known for creating Devin, the first AI software engineer, and Windsurf, an AI-native IDE. We are seeking Infrastructure Engineers to build and maintain the critical systems that power our AI products, ensuring reliability, scale, and a seamless developer experience.
Responsibilities
- Own agent execution infrastructure, including designing and operating sandboxed compute environments for task execution, VM orchestration, container management, resource scheduling, and isolation at scale.
- Build and maintain the developer platform, including CI/CD pipelines, deployment systems, developer tooling, and abstractions for rapid product shipping.
- Drive reliability and observability by defining SLOs, building monitoring and alerting systems, leading incident response, and analyzing postmortems.
- Scale infrastructure with product growth by anticipating capacity and architectural needs and making strategic investments.
- Partner with product engineers and researchers to understand system requirements and design infrastructure that meets needs without unnecessary complexity.
Requirements
- Deep systems engineering experience, including designing and operating large-scale distributed infrastructure with a focus on reliability and operational excellence.
- Hands-on proficiency with Kubernetes, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, with proficiency in Python and experience owning complex system codebases.
- Observability instincts, including system instrumentation, dashboard design, and effective alerting.
- Experience with security and isolation, including sandboxing, network isolation, and secure multi-tenant compute.
- Relevant industry experience in a frontier AI lab, applied AI company, or developer tools company.
- A degree (BS, MS, or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline from a highly selective program.
