We are an applied AI lab building end-to-end software agents, notably the first AI software engineer, Devin. Our team comprises top talent from leading AI companies and competitive programming backgrounds. We are tackling some of the most challenging open problems in applied AI, focusing on creating agents that can reason across extensive codebases, coordinate subagents, and reliably use tools for complex, long-horizon tasks. This role is for engineers who want to be at the forefront of AI development, contributing to products used by millions of developers to write, debug, and ship code, and who believe in fundamentally reshaping the future of software engineering.
Responsibilities
- Design and ship core agent infrastructure for long-horizon task execution, including tool use, context management, multi-step planning, subagent orchestration, and sandboxed code execution environments.
- Contribute to improving an AI-native IDE by enhancing editor intelligence, agent-in-the-loop workflows, real-time code understanding, and the overall developer experience.
- Collaborate with researchers to translate new model capabilities into shipped features and provide feedback that shapes training priorities.
- Build and maintain systems for handling millions of agentic tasks with low latency, high reliability, and production-level correctness.
- Contribute to defining the future of AI software engineering with input into product development and strategy.
Requirements
- Demonstrated systems engineering depth with experience building reliable, performant distributed systems, including strong opinions on correctness and failure modes.
- Product instinct with a focus on user experience and a track record of shipping products that real people depend on.
- Comfort with ambiguity, ability to make progress on hard problems with incomplete specifications, and learn quickly from results.
- Proven ability to ship quickly while maintaining high code quality.
- Curiosity about AI agents, including understanding LLM mechanics, agent failure modes, and reliable AI system behavior.
- Strong Python proficiency, including writing clean, well-structured code and managing large Python codebases in production.
- Relevant industry experience in frontier AI labs, applied AI companies, or developer tools companies.
- A degree (BS, MS, or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline from a highly selective program.
