About the job
We are seeking an IT Engineer to manage the employee technology experience within our New York or London office, while also contributing to the scaling of Cognition's global IT operations. This role is the primary IT point of contact for the office, ensuring employees have secure and reliable technology and receive prompt support. The position also involves enhancing IT operations through the development of durable tooling, automation, and AI-enabled workflows to streamline recurring tasks. Ideal candidates will possess in-depth knowledge in two to three IT disciplines and a desire to explore new areas.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary IT partner for employees, providing responsive support across devices, applications, access, conferencing, and workplace technology.
- Ensure the reliability and employee experience of office technology, including networks, vendor coordination, and asset lifecycle management.
- Drive improvements to support regional growth by partnering with the global IT team on office expansions, infrastructure changes, and operational handoffs.
- Administer identity and access across Okta and core SaaS platforms like Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub, Zoom, and Microsoft 365.
- Establish repeatable standards and automation for employee lifecycle, group management, application provisioning, and access reviews.
- Administer MDM and endpoint security platforms for device provisioning, configuration, patching, and security remediation.
- Develop scripts, integrations, and reusable tooling in TypeScript, Python, or another modern programming language.
- Connect systems through APIs and event-driven workflows to reduce manual work and improve data consistency.
- Build and operate infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD workflows for IT systems.
- Introduce monitoring and observability to proactively identify and resolve IT problems.
- Develop our use of Console.ai and other AI-enabled ITSM capabilities.
- Use support signals and operational metrics for continuous improvement of self-service, automation, and resolution quality.
- Act as customer zero for Devin by embedding it across IT operations and building secure integrations for AI-assisted workflows.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in IT engineering, systems administration, technical support, or a related role.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience delivering high-quality, hands-on IT support in an onsite environment.
- Broad familiarity with modern workplace IT and meaningful depth in at least two disciplines (e.g., IAM with Terraform and CI/CD, endpoint or network engineering with automation, or software integrations with employee support).
- Experience administering identity, SaaS, or collaboration platforms such as Okta, Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub, Zoom, or Microsoft 365.
- Ability to write and maintain scripts or integrations in TypeScript, Python, or another modern language, or equivalent technical depth applying infrastructure-as-code to systems like Okta.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, wired and wireless networks, and systematic troubleshooting.
- Strong judgment, communication, and organization skills, with a track record of carrying ambiguous problems through implementation and ongoing operation.
- Proactively identifies problems, establishes a path forward, and drives work through completion with appropriate autonomy.
- Approaches support with responsiveness, empathy, and clear communication.
- Addresses immediate needs while looking for opportunities to prevent recurring issues through better tooling, documentation, automation, and system design.
