Cloudflare's Infrastructure Team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Deploy@Scale team to provide technical leadership for the platform that enables safe, reliable, and automated deployments across Cloudflare. This is a senior individual contributor role where you will set technical direction across multiple work streams, operate with significant autonomy, and drive architecture decisions. You will partner with leadership to shape the roadmap, influence how engineering teams approach safe change, and mentor other engineers. The role involves defining the platform, making critical tradeoffs for safety, speed, and scalability, and advancing the infrastructure that supports Cloudflare's global network. You will collaborate with internal customers to develop technical solutions and thrive in a fast-paced, iterative engineering environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for the platform powering safe, reliable, and automated deployments.
- Set technical direction across multiple work streams and drive architecture decisions.
- Identify problems to solve and shape the multi-quarter roadmap.
- Act as a primary technical voice in cross-team design reviews, RFCs, and incident retrospectives.
- Unblock and elevate the team through design reviews, pairing, and mentorship.
- Define the platform's scope and make tradeoffs to ensure safety, speed, and scalability.
- Advance the infrastructure for fast, safe delivery of changes to production.
- Collaborate with the team to understand business needs and develop technical solutions.
- Work closely with internal customers to turn their workflows into platform capabilities.
- Potentially be on-call outside standard working hours.
Requirements
- 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
- Track record of owning the architecture of complex, distributed, production-critical systems end-to-end.
- Demonstrated technical leadership beyond personal code contributions.
- Experience driving RFCs and design reviews relied upon by other senior engineers and teams.
- Comfort defining problems and roadmaps in environments with unspecified requirements.
- Deep experience with safety, observability, and automation in production systems.
- Experience designing rollback paths, health signals, and guardrails.
- Experience influencing technical direction across team boundaries without direct authority.
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment with AI as a working tool.
- Fluent use of AI-assisted development and critical evaluation of its output.
- Experience with workflow orchestration, long-running/durable execution, or large-scale distributed systems is a strong plus.
