Cloudflare is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join their Austin team. This role involves scaling the development of internal data products, building data-driven applications that empower various teams across the company, including go-to-market, engineering, and product. As the team initiates and owns its products, you will be involved end-to-end, from shaping requirements and designing features to implementation and long-term ownership. You will work on building scalable, reliable systems that solve critical business problems, partnering closely with full-stack engineers to develop new features and operate data pipelines and services. The role offers opportunities to work with a diverse stack including Go, Scala, and ClickHouse, and to build sophisticated, AI-ready data layers using tools like vector databases and Workers AI.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement core components of data pipelines and services in Go and Scala, focusing on scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Partner with engineers, analysts, and product stakeholders to design solutions for strategic initiatives, business-critical data products, and agentic AI architectures.
- Contribute to the evolution of the data platform architecture, improving scalability, reliability, observability, and data correctness.
- Build and curate high-quality, well-modeled, and richly contextual datasets for internal products, predictive analytics, and LLM-enabled features.
- Develop a deep understanding of the company’s data ecosystem and collaborate with engineers to improve data ingestion, quality, and governance.
- Lead by example through design reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentorship to raise the technical bar and data engineering practices.
Requirements
- Experienced Data Engineer.
- Experience building scalable, reliable systems.
- Experience with Go and Scala.
- Familiarity with ClickHouse.
- Experience with AI components, vector databases, MCP-based services, and Workers AI is a plus.
- Ability to shape requirements, design features, implement solutions, and provide long-term ownership.
- Strong collaboration skills with full-stack engineers, analysts, and product stakeholders.
- Understanding of data ingestion, quality, and governance principles.
