Cloudflare's Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI) team is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering efforts for Agentic Commerce. This role focuses on building the infrastructure that enables machine-to-machine payments and monetization, a key component of the "Agentic Internet" vision. The team is developing tools to manage how AI agents pay for resources across the web, bridging traditional commerce with decentralized protocols for micro-payments at internet scale. This is a management position for a technically credible leader who can guide a team in solving complex problems related to high-throughput web infrastructure, low-latency transaction processing, digital wallets, and emerging agentic payment protocols.
Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and grow engineers working on payment pipelines, agent authentication, and commerce architecture.
- Own execution by setting priorities, ensuring predictable delivery, and empowering engineers.
- Lead the development of agentic payment systems using emerging open standards for machine-to-machine micropayments.
- Lead the engineering for usage metering, pricing engines, outcome verification, and revenue attribution for agentic workflows.
- Build capabilities for businesses to control their agent-generated revenue streams.
- Partner with Product Management to define the roadmap and translate opportunities into engineering outcomes.
- Integrate mainstream and decentralized technologies, focusing on high-throughput web and fiat commerce rails.
Requirements
- Deep technical credibility to understand systems, challenge architectural decisions, and assist with technical problems.
- Experience managing and developing engineers.
- Ability to understand and guide work on payment rails and cryptographic authentication.
- Experience with high-throughput systems and low-latency transaction processing.
- Familiarity with digital wallets and emerging agentic payment protocols.
- Understanding of blockchain technologies and decentralized protocols.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including being on-call, to address technical issues.
