Cartesia is seeking a Software Engineer, Agents to develop the backend platform for Line, their voice agents product. This role involves owning backend development end-to-end, shaping the latency, reliability, and developer experience of agents built on the Cartesia platform. The position requires building and operating distributed systems, taking projects from specification to production, making critical architectural decisions, and defining the developer experience for engineers using the platform.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate distributed systems for voice agents, including load balancing servers, workers, and real-time media pipelines.
- Manage projects from initial concept through design, development, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Make and articulate architectural decisions regarding latency, reliability, and scaling, considering trade-offs.
- Define and improve the developer experience through APIs, observability, and applied evaluations.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience building distributed backend systems in production, preferably at a high-growth startup.
- Strong product instincts for platform work, focusing on customer-facing latency, reliability, and developer experience.
- Demonstrated ability in second-order thinking about backend architecture and design choices.
- Proficient in using AI coding tools and staying current with AI advancements.
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences, including writing clear specifications and participating in design reviews.
