As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer on the Embedded Insights team, you will play a crucial role in shaping Plaid's future by developing innovative machine learning-powered products and features. Initially, you will focus on supporting the Plaid App, contributing to a new consumer-facing product from its inception and helping to establish its product-market fit. This role involves close collaboration with product managers, data scientists, engineers, and customers to transform ambiguous opportunities into effective ML systems that deliver measurable customer value. You will also contribute to the broader Embedded Insights team by analyzing unique datasets to identify high-impact ML opportunities, productionizing models, and optimizing the performance of existing ML systems.
Responsibilities
- Build machine learning-based features for a new consumer-facing product.
- Partner with product managers to translate business requirements into machine learning problems and influence product strategy.
- Iterate and experiment to drive product-market fit for a new business line.
- Define success metrics and guardrails for new machine learning features with Data Scientists.
- Partner with other Machine Learning Engineers to build effective data feedback loops.
- Analyze Plaid’s datasets to identify high-impact machine learning opportunities and complete proofs of concept.
- Productionize models and deploy them in customer-facing products.
- Optimize and maintain the health of existing models by developing new features, identifying retraining cadences, and creating monitoring metrics and dashboards.
- Communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, and system behavior to both technical and non-technical partners.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in machine learning, including deploying models into real-world systems.
- High agency and creativity, with experience identifying, defining, and proposing high-impact machine learning opportunities.
- Ability to analyze large and complex financial datasets and derive actionable insights.
- Experience taking machine learning systems from experimentation or proof of concept through production and ongoing improvement.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Proficiency in data visualization and analysis tools.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical systems, decisions, tradeoffs, and outcomes to cross-functional partners.
- Advanced degree or equivalent work experience in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.
