We are seeking engineers to develop open-source libraries that enable customers to observe, understand, and optimize AI operations within their production applications. These SDKs are fundamental to Braintrust's platform, powering evaluation and observability pipelines across diverse environments, frameworks, and AI providers. This role is perfect for engineers who are passionate about developer experience, API design, and building fast, reliable, and idiomatic libraries. You will manage the entire SDK lifecycle, from design and implementation to release, documentation, and community support. Your contributions will be integrated into thousands of applications, shaping the adoption and operationalization of AI across industries.
Responsibilities
- Build elegant, idiomatic, and resilient SDKs for Braintrust's LLM evaluation and AI observability platform.
- Ensure libraries are user-friendly, efficient, and enjoyable to work with, focusing on developer experience and performance.
- Integrate with major AI providers, frameworks, and platforms like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini.
- Develop tools and automation for improved testing, profiling, and simplified release workflows.
- Collaborate with backend, platform, and product teams for a cohesive developer experience.
- Act as a community ambassador, engaging with users, understanding their issues, and facilitating merged fixes with empathy.
Requirements
- Customer-obsessed with a passion for solving real-world developer problems.
- Deep expertise in Python and building fast, idiomatic, reliable libraries.
- Proficient with SDK development tooling, including testing frameworks, profilers, CI/CD, and packaging systems.
- Strong focus on developer experience, including clean APIs, clear documentation, thoughtful error handling, and backward compatibility.
- Experience wrapping, patching, or extending existing frameworks/SDKs for observability and control without disrupting workflows.
- Proven experience maintaining or contributing to production-grade open-source libraries used across multiple environments.
- Bonus: Contributions to popular open-source projects, leading SDK adoption, familiarity with tracing/observability tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry), or experience with LLM/AI ecosystem tools.
