Braintrust is seeking a Director of Product Engineering to lead the team responsible for building the company's core product experience. This is a hands-on leadership role for an individual passionate about both product development and team building. The successful candidate will influence how the company builds by setting technical direction, elevating product standards, and fostering an exceptional product engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a high-performing product engineering team, fostering a culture of ownership and strong execution.
- Enhance Braintrust's UI, focusing on interaction design, performance, reliability, and overall product polish.
- Define and own the technical direction for the product, evolving frontend architecture to support complex workflows and large datasets.
- Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to understand user needs, shape the product roadmap, and make critical technical decisions.
- Lead the development of ambitious product features at scale, including prompt playgrounds, prompt management, multiplayer human review, and LLM analysis.
- Engineer solutions for cutting-edge AI applications, such as prompt experimentation, versioning, multiplayer review, and large-scale LLM analysis.
Requirements
- Proven engineering leadership experience, including building, managing, and scaling high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit exceptional engineers and develop future leaders.
- Exceptional product judgment and UI design sensibility, with a focus on usability, performance, and detail.
- Deep technical expertise in modern web applications, including experience with data-intensive products.
- Proficiency with technologies such as TypeScript, React, SQL, and Next.js.
- A builder's mindset with the ability to strategize organizationally and make architectural decisions.
- High degree of ownership and a bias for action, with the ability to make pragmatic decisions in fast-paced environments.
- Experience building LLM-powered products or leading teams through rapid growth is a plus.
