About the job
Black Forest Labs is seeking a Forward Deployed Robotics Engineer to integrate their advanced generative models, including action/VLA models, into the robotics and physical-AI systems of their key customers. This role involves embedding with clients, implementing real-world integrations, and providing direct feedback to the product and research teams. The ideal candidate is passionate about bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI research and practical robotic applications, with a proven ability to deliver functional systems in research, open-source, or production environments. This is a high-ownership position focused on customer success and driving the adoption of foundational AI technologies.
Responsibilities
- Partner with customers to design and ship integrations, finetunes, and interfaces for BFL's models, from prototype to production.
- Ensure models perform optimally in customer environments, addressing latency and quality on real robots, including edge and real-time constraints.
- Identify high-value use cases with customers and rapidly prototype solutions.
- Discover and lead opportunities to expand BFL's technologies into new application areas.
- Prototype novel techniques from recent research papers in collaboration with the research team.
Requirements
- Proven track record as a robotics engineer, forward deployed engineer, or technical founder.
- Experience working directly with customers, iterating on solutions, and providing tailored support for generative AI models.
- Hands-on experience with action/VLA models and related open-source ecosystems (e.g., π0/π0.5, LeRobot), including imitation/reinforcement learning or policy learning.
- Ability to address a wide range of engineering challenges, from model hosting and backend to frontend and UI development.
- Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating with non-technical stakeholders, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
Benefits
- Equity
- Travel costs covered for in-person collaboration
