About the job
Baseten is seeking an AI Developer Productivity Engineer to build the internal platform that empowers engineers to work in an AI-first manner. This role involves creating the agent configurations, tooling, and evaluation frameworks that make AI agents competent and easy to use within our codebase. You will be responsible for making the "good path" for AI adoption the easiest path, focusing on shipping infrastructure and measuring its impact. The goal is to enable teams to adopt these AI tools because they are superior to self-assembled solutions, not due to mandates. You will write the playbook for an AI-first Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) at Baseten, driving adoption through excellent developer experience, clear documentation, and low friction.
Responsibilities
- Own the internal AI developer platform end-to-end, including architecture, build, rollout, operation, and measurement.
- Evaluate and integrate third-party AI coding tools, building the context layer to make them effective with our monorepo.
- Develop frameworks enabling other engineers to create their own agents without requiring deep LLM expertise.
- Establish and utilize an AI-assisted development evaluation practice to inform investment decisions.
- Drive adoption through superior developer experience, clear documentation, and low friction, rather than mandates.
- Collaborate with teams to identify AI-driven unblocking opportunities and generalize these into platform capabilities.
- Manage the safety layer, encompassing permissions, secrets handling, audit trails, and cost management.
Requirements
- 4+ years of relevant industry experience building and enabling AI-native SDLC.
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or Go for building tools used daily by engineers.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs and agent frameworks (tool calling, MCP, context management, orchestration, failure handling), including shipping agentic systems for real users.
- Deep personal fluency with AI coding tools and a clear understanding of their limitations.
- A platform mindset focused on adoption and self-service, treating internal engineers as customers.
- Fundamentals in developer tooling, CI/CD, and Kubernetes/Docker.
- Comfort with ambiguity in a rapidly evolving field.
- Excellent written communication skills for creating scalable documentation, templates, and examples.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity
- 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
- Flexible PTO policy including company-wide Winter Break
- Paid parental leave
- Fertility and family-building stipend
- Company-facilitated 401(k)
- Exposure to a variety of ML startups for learning and networking opportunities
