Baseten is seeking a Product Manager to define and build the developer experience for their AI inference platform. This is a foundational role where you will work directly with founders and engineers to shape the product function from the ground up. You will own the entire developer journey, from initial sign-up to deploying and iterating on AI models, aiming to make Baseten synonymous with great developer experience. The ideal candidate is deeply technical, customer-obsessed, and driven to ship impactful product experiences, not just strategy or documentation.
Responsibilities
- Reduce the time it takes for developers to go from sign-up to a production-ready AI model deployment.
- Establish the CLI and SDKs as the primary tools for developers and AI agents interacting with Baseten, unifying various authoring surfaces.
- Ensure a seamless onboarding and initial deployment experience for developers, including clear error reporting and build progress visualization.
- Manage the full deployment lifecycle, enabling safe and reproducible releases through environment promotion, version history, and progressive delivery controls.
- Define the methods for developers to compose multi-model applications and build multi-modal agents.
- Increase self-serve deployment capabilities by understanding customer friction points and translating them into product improvements.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in product management or as a product-minded engineer, focusing on developer-facing or technical products.
- Experience as an engineer building developer tools such as SDKs, CLIs, APIs, or platform interfaces.
- Demonstrated success in shipping developer tooling and products.
- A strong understanding and passion for developer experience, both in local environments (CLI) and UIs.
- Well-defined opinions on CLI, API-first, and agent-first design principles.
- Sufficient technical depth to gain the trust of engineers and understand underlying systems.
- A rigorous research approach driven by customer needs and a strong bias for shipping.
