About the job
Commure is developing an AI Operating System for healthcare, aiming to transform how care is delivered, documented, and financed. The platform includes Ambient AI, intelligent Agents for workflow automation, and autonomous RCM processing. We are seeking a Software Engineer to build the systems that power our AI Voice Agents, which handle patient interactions like scheduling, cancellations, and FAQs by integrating directly with EHR and telephony systems in real-time. This is a mid-level role on a fast-paced team that ships daily, offering significant opportunities for growth.
Responsibilities
- Build backend services in Python for real-time voice agents, including call orchestration, conversation state, tool execution, and EHR write-back.
- Develop low-latency pipelines connecting telephony, ASR, LLMs, and TTS for conversational loops.
- Integrate with healthcare systems such as Epic, Cerner, and athena for scheduling, eligibility, and intake.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on API design, data models, and event-driven workflows.
- Partner with AI, product, and operations teams to deliver user-centric features.
- Ensure the quality of shipped features, focusing on latency, reliability, observability, and release readiness.
Requirements
- 2-4 years of backend software experience, primarily in Python.
- Experience shipping production services, APIs, and data models.
- Understanding of human interaction with voice and text-based automated assistants.
- Familiarity with async, event-driven, or real-time systems, or willingness to learn.
- Strong fundamentals in testing, LLM evaluation, observability, and reliability.
- A patient-centered mindset, designing for the end-user.
- A bias for action and ownership mindset.
