About the job
Asana's AI Teammates are autonomous agents designed to integrate into enterprise workflows, proactively driving work forward. The AI Teammates Platform (AITP) team is responsible for the execution engine and platform layer that ensures these agents are effective, reliable, and scalable. This involves building core systems for agentic execution, including model evaluation, rollout strategies, infrastructure for detecting blocked work, quality assurance, tool orchestration, and platform APIs that power AI across Asana's engineering efforts. The team focuses on creating a composable foundation rather than a monolithic feature, enabling AI Teammates to reason, act, and autonomously improve.
Responsibilities
- Set the technical strategy for the AI Teammates execution engine, tool orchestration, and platform APIs.
- Advocate for engineering-driven investments to maintain flexible, reliable, and maintainable systems.
- Drive continuous improvement of the team's processes and standards for clean architecture and systems reliability.
- Enable engineers to deliver at high velocity and grow their skills.
- Collaborate with other engineering groups and serve as a technical counterpart to the Engineering Manager.
- Partner with external model providers and represent platform capabilities across teams.
- Partner with Product Management, Design, Data Science, and User Research to understand agentic work patterns and propose solutions.
- Architect and own the composable platform foundation for self-serve agentic capability building.
- Oversee high-impact technical initiatives, including proactivity, integrations, model evaluations, latency tuning, and cost optimization.
- Ensure systems scale safely with frontier LLM updates.
Requirements
- 6+ years of software engineering experience in large codebases with strong backend, systems, or reliability fundamentals.
- 2+ years leading engineering teams or serving as a technical lead, with a track record of driving technical strategy, planning, and risk mitigation.
- Experience or deep interest in Applied AI / Agentic Systems, including agent orchestration, tool integration, model evaluation frameworks, RAG, or production LLM observability.
- Ability to learn quickly and transition between contexts and codebases to unblock teammates.
- Deep project management experience, including timeline planning, risk mitigation, stakeholder management, and coordinating work.
- Passion for mentoring engineers at all skill levels and providing thoughtful feedback.
- Excitement for fostering an inclusive culture and psychological safety within the team.
