Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems to be safe and beneficial for users and society. This role is on the Platform research team, embedded within Anthropic's Platform organization. This team informs critical decisions through rigorous research, working closely with curious, open-minded stakeholders. You will combine qualitative and quantitative methods to understand user needs in a rapidly evolving space, moving fast and favoring impact over polish. This is a senior individual-contributor role with significant autonomy, where you will work with Platform's leaders to identify and lead impactful research initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Platform leaders and teams to understand their user research needs and define the research agenda.
- Independently design and conduct research studies using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Investigate the needs of diverse platform users, including developers, companies building products, and administrators/buyers.
- Communicate research findings to product managers, designers, and engineers, ensuring they inform product decisions.
- Develop research tools and infrastructure, leveraging AI like Claude, to maintain pace with platform development and invent new methodologies.
- Build shared understanding of users within teams to enable independent good decision-making.
Requirements
- Industry experience independently scoping, designing, running, and reporting end-to-end UX research studies.
- Expertise in mixed-methods research, including interviewing technical users and designing/analyzing surveys.
- A technical background, demonstrated through experience as a software engineer, sustained developer-experience research on APIs/SDKs/developer tools, or a track record of researching deeply technical products.
- Ability to understand technical documentation, build small applications on the platform, and communicate effectively with technical teams.
- Hands-on experience using AI in research for analysis and tooling.

- Annual compensation range: $305,000 - $385,000 USD
