About the job
As a Technical Program Manager on the reinforcement learning team, you will own the systems and programs that determine how fast our research moves. This involves providing a trustworthy read on the state of RL research and managing the review and prioritization processes that translate that understanding into critical decisions for production RL runs. You will need strong technical depth, including the ability to debug data pipelines, analyze RL transcripts for issues, and make real-time allocation and quality decisions when research or production runs encounter problems. Equally important is organizational effectiveness: navigating a fast-growing organization, identifying key individuals and teams across research, infrastructure, product, and data operations, and coordinating their efforts to maintain velocity. Join us in our mission to build AI systems that are safe, reliable, and beneficial to humanity.
Responsibilities
- Deliver regular updates on the state of RL research, including performance against baselines, experiment results, and daily operational health and incidents.
- Collaborate with RL organization leads to prioritize, rank, and track the progress of experiments.
- Manage research reviews from start to finish, including setting agendas, ensuring relevant context is shared beforehand, and finalizing decisions.
- Establish processes and frameworks to bring structure to research settings without hindering researcher productivity.
- Partner with research leads, infrastructure engineers, and data operations to identify obstacles, prioritize competing demands, and make technical trade-off decisions.
Requirements
- Background in ML engineering or ML research prior to transitioning into technical program management.
- Deep, hands-on experience with ML training pipelines, RLHF systems, and large-scale data infrastructure in production.
- Proven track record of developing execution plans and creating high-leverage processes that reduce operational overhead and allow researchers to focus on their work.
- Ability to quickly acquire deep contextual understanding in new technical domains and contribute meaningfully to discussions with researchers.
- Resourceful and high-agency, capable of navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities to drive progress in a fast-paced research environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior technical staff.
- Excitement about advancing the capabilities of RL at scale.
Benefits
- Annual compensation range: $365,000 - $435,000 USD
- Visa sponsorship available
