About the job
Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that are safe and beneficial for users and society. The Connectivity team is focused on making Claude the most connected AI, defining how agents safely access external systems with the right permissions for enterprise trust. This involves shipping standards and services for various Anthropic products, owning the MCP proxy for tool call routing, and managing OAuth and token authentication. The team is also a core contributor to the MCP spec and maintains official Python and TypeScript SDKs. We are seeking experienced software engineers to join this team, which spans San Francisco and London, to work on critical reliability and enterprise trust challenges, including large-scale OAuth, admin controls for agent permissions, and robust proxy infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate core connectivity infrastructure for external tool calls, including the MCP proxy and OAuth/token management systems.
- Own reliability for critical infrastructure, including setting SLOs, participating in on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems.
- Develop admin controls and permission models for enterprise IT to govern agent capabilities.
- Contribute to the MCP standard and its ecosystem, including the specification and official Python/TypeScript SDKs.
- Translate ambiguous outcomes into shipped, scoped work, and dogfood developed features.
- Independently scope complex, multi-month projects.
- Drive cross-organizational alignment in ambiguous problem spaces.
- Make architectural decisions that influence Anthropic's product development and scaling.
- Partner with research teams to productize cutting-edge capabilities.
- Impact the platform used by hundreds of thousands of companies and engineers daily.
Requirements
- Experience as a backend or platform engineer.
- Familiarity with using AI tools in the software development process.
- Product-focused approach to platform work, prioritizing robust, scalable, and user-friendly solutions.
- Full ownership of work, from design through deployment, operations, and iteration.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions independently.
- Experience operating production distributed systems, understanding reliability, observability, and incident response at scale.
- Excellent communication skills for building consensus across teams and time zones.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.
Benefits
- Annual compensation range: $405,000 - $485,000 USD
- Visa sponsorship available (with reasonable effort for offers).
