This role is at the intersection of research and engineering, focusing on the scaling of large teams of AI agents. You will design and execute experiments, build the underlying systems, and analyze surprising results to understand how performance, cost, and coordination evolve with increasing agent numbers, compute, and task complexity. The goal is to identify and overcome bottlenecks to achieve continued returns from scale.
Responsibilities
- Design, run, and interpret large-scale experiments on agent teams, rigorously analyzing data.
- Investigate how performance and efficiency change with team size, compute, and task horizon, identifying bottlenecks.
- Build and scale reliable systems for running very large agent teams and debug failures at scale.
- Design trustworthy evaluations for long-horizon problems.
- Develop tooling and metrics for researchers to understand agent team behavior and reasoning.
- Collaborate with research teams to enable their experiments on the platform and communicate findings.
Requirements
- Significant software engineering, ML, or research engineering experience.
- Experience owning substantial projects end-to-end (e.g., large systems, evaluations, agent products, research projects).
- Enjoyment of both research and engineering work.
- Quantitative thinking about complex systems and critical evaluation of data.
- Ability to work from vague questions to actionable experiments.
- Results-oriented with a bias towards flexibility and impact.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to the societal impacts of AI work.
