As a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer on the GTM team, you will embed directly with Anthropic's most strategic customers, leading the technical direction of their AI adoption. You will be responsible for deciding what should be built and ensuring its high-quality implementation, working with customer teams to ship advanced AI applications that solve real-world business problems. This role involves guiding architecture and advisory work, combining engineering expertise, an understanding of frontier AI applications, and customer-facing skills to develop innovative solutions while upholding Anthropic's standards for safety and reliability. You will operate at the forefront of enterprise AI deployments, helping to shape the company's forward-deployed strategy as it scales, and represent Anthropic at the highest levels within customer organizations.
Responsibilities
- Own technical strategy for key accounts or verticals in partnership with account and product teams.
- Guide technical architecture and design decisions across multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Lead discovery and advisory engagements independently, shaping scope and technical strategy.
- Lead engagements delivered with partners, setting the architecture and quality bar.
- Review designs and unblock other FDEs on complex technical issues.
- Represent Anthropic to senior technical and business stakeholders, including VPs and C-level executives, to align on strategy and de-risk delivery.
- Own engagements end-to-end: scope, sequence, unblock, anticipate gates, and deliver production systems.
- Build production applications and agent components with Claude within customer systems and ensure customer operability.
- Identify and codify repeatable deployment patterns and contribute insights to Product and Engineering teams.
- Build long-term customer relationships and proactively identify new AI deployment opportunities.
- Travel frequently (25%) to customer sites for in-person collaboration.
- Act as a champion for Anthropic's mission in the field.
Requirements
- Deep system design and problem decomposition skills, capable of translating business problems into defensible technical strategies for secure, production-ready designs in complex enterprise environments.
- Experience in a senior technical, customer-facing role (e.g., Forward Deployed Engineer, Tech Lead with consulting/product experience) or as a technical founder.
- Proven ability to be the go-to person for ambiguous technical challenges, through architecture review, pairing, or mentorship.
- Track record of directly influencing senior technical and business stakeholders (VP/C-level) in complex organizations.
- Extensive experience building and operating production systems, with hands-on experience with LLMs and agents.
- Strong programming skills, proficiency in Python, and ideally experience in additional languages like TypeScript or Java.
- Experience shipping production applications and everyday use of AI coding tools with the judgment to review and steer.
- Experience leading advisory and architecture-review engagements, as well as hands-on builds, from start to finish.
- High agency and ability to navigate ambiguity in complex organizations, with fast learning velocity for new domains and tools.
- Passion for advancing safe, beneficial AI systems through creative technical applications.
- Background in financial services, healthcare/life sciences, or another enterprise vertical is a plus.
